Our Story
With over two decades of experience as a physician working in hospitals across the U.S. and internationally, Dr. Paul Mullan has observed the frustration healthcare teams face when attempting to resolve challenging issues that impede the delivery of high-quality care. To expedite the problem-solving process using insights from frontline team members, Paul adapted debriefing methods from the military to implement the first clinical event debriefing program in 2010 and published the first article on this topic in the civilian medical literature. Since then, he has assisted over 60 teams worldwide in starting their programs and has authored more publications about debriefing implementation than any other clinician. In addition to improving outcomes, these programs have saved hospitals money and enhanced team morale.
Unfortunately, initiating and sustaining debriefing programs has posed challenges for many hospitals. Paul has assembled a team to develop the StatDebrief debriefing software solution to address these barriers. The time is right, considering the widespread use of smartphones, recent advancements in natural language processing, and the integration of AI technologies in healthcare.
Our Mission
We are on a mission to empower clinical teams with a debriefing software solution that improves outcomes in healthcare.
While improved patient outcomes are crucial, we recognize that improvements in team member outcomes (eg, reducing staff turnover, increasing psychological safety) and financial outcomes (eg, better operational efficiency, meeting quality reimbursement benchmarks) are of utmost importance for hospitals to justify their expenses for a software solution.
Our Vision
We believe our core values of innovation, collaboration, simplicity, and purpose will guide us in achieving our vision of becoming the world’s most empowering and impactful debriefing tool in healthcare.
Our Big Hairy Audacious Goal is to build a community of 10,000 active debriefing users and conduct over 1 million debriefings by 2030.
