
Paul Mullan
Paul Mullan, MD MPH is a physician dual-boarded in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. Previously, he founded Camp Phoenix, a free camp for pediatric burn survivors, while at Cornell Medical School. After his residency at UPenn, he was a pediatric HIV physician in Botswana for two years and also led a nationwide Teen Club to empower HIV-positive adolescents and scaled attendance from 7 to over 250 monthly teens. After Botswana, he completed his pediatric emergency medicine fellowship and MPH at Texas Children’s Hospital. He then returned to his hometown of DC to work at Children's National. He is now a Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School in the pediatric ER at CHKD where he is the Director of Quality Improvement.
He has led multiple national quality collaboratives including those with the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Heart Association, and Choosing Wisely. He has taught hundreds of clinicians worldwide to conduct healthcare debriefings at The Debriefing Academy. He got certified in 2023 with the American Board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine.
When he is not debriefing with his three kids on their latest triumph or tragedy of the day, he enjoys coaching their sports teams, growing fruit trees, family card games, or catching up with his wife at the end of a day.
